If you want the best tires money can buy,get a set of Potenza 01-R,or Advan Neova.
I was wondering where was the love for Yokohoma. I may never spring for a set again but I'm loving mine.

Come on, tell the truth. You just don't have any roads up there worth driving on so you might as well use a harder rubber compound than the S-02s.
Sure...rub it in!

My Hankook Ventus K104s do well for me. I'm heading for the dragon tomorrow and I have every confidence these will do well.

I can't break these things loose. I guess I'm just not up for such conduct anymore. The car is definitely up for more than I am.

I may take your advice on the next set and get the 265s on the rear. But they void my previous statement concerning buying another set.

I don't think so. The front and rear tires are different sizes (on AP2, I have no clue for AP1). The profiles are different (215/45 vs 245/40) the width is different (87 vs 91). Not a good idea. Better to suck it up and buy 4 than to find yourself on the wrong side of an accident.

Rob wasn't talking about mixing widths. Most of us already know that for AP1 OEM rims, the rears are closer to a 245 sizing in non-OEM tires. Also, I think we should all be looking at keeping the approximate level of performance, wear ratings, etc, more or less the same when mixing tires from front to back.
For the record, the OP is talking about AP2 sizing and going with PP 050s on one end and OEM 050s on the other end of the car. These two tires are "fairly" comparable in the characteristics I listed.

Also, for the record, my suggestion would be to simply get another set of rears and run them till the fronts wear down and you can buy a complete set of tires of the exact same type and brand. However, doing what the OP did is not going to mean a matter of "life and death" so long as he understands the slight change in handling that this mixed set brings.

Kumho Escta 712 (had these on my street rims and I would say they gave about 80% of the performance of the OEM tires at about 50% the cost.)
I have these on my car now (in 17" size). They are very predictable in where they break away. However, having said that, I sometimes still wish for that last 20%.
I may go with the Goodyear F1s after these things wear out. (If they ever wear out. )
