That was tongue in cheek, Debby.

There is surprisingly little demand for books at any local library I've consulted and, in fact, I haunt their frequent sales of books they don't want! Rather than take them to the landfill, though, try the library and when that fails take them to the local Half Priced Books store where you may get enough money for them for a dinner out for two.

We filled the folded 2d and 3d seat rows of my Expedition with used books before our move last October and we still have eight (8) full height bookcases and several smaller full of them. The set of shelves I had installed last week noted they were "perfect for books you're never going to read." Pretty much describes most of ours. No worse, I guess, than her collecting shoes and purses or me collecting AR15s and M1911s.

If you have no life and lots of time on your hands there's always Ebay. First editions are frequently there. We toured the Mohawk Valley two summers ago my wife just had to have Drums Along the Mohawk in a first printing. Found it. It's there on the shelf. Somewhere.

Having moved twice in a year, we gave (to the library) probably 15 boxes of books. We now read 95% on our Ipad Kindles. No more collecting.

Thank you all for your help. I will first try the local library, then the Salvation Army followed by Books for Africa. I've had four recommendations for the local library and three for the SA. Deb, thanks for your banned list that that will be a great help once I start boxing them up. At present they are in appropriate piles, just so I can check them once again. I know, I should have boxed them straight away but like I said before, "it's not easy parting with books."
