I gave a pint of BLOOD today at our church's semi-annual blood drive. Just curious....

*how many other people donate on a regular basis?
*what's your reaction to the whole process?
*how long have you done it?

If you've never done it, why not

 

I used to donate, but since going through cancer they won't have me anymore.

 

in canada there are criteria that must be met before you can be a blood donor. if anybody is interested i can list them. hats off to everybody who tries,can and continues to do so, especially the ones with the rare blood types. the gift of half an hour of your time goes along ways.

 

Started donating when I was 18. But...

Looks like my blood ain't good enough for the American Red Cross. Something about living in teh UK for a couple of years.

 

I get queasy just walking by the blood drive signs here at work. Medical stuff just gets to me, so I don't volunteer for it. I've never been in hospital, but I have passed out in waiting rooms, at the dentist, and while listening to my cousin describe an operation.
Fate got me back when I married into a medical family. I still run for cover at Thanksgiving, when carving the turkey invariably leads my father-in-law into describing some of the gruesome things he dealt with while he was an ER surgeon.

 

I was a regular donor for a while. Got up to 2+ gallons! My dad had a blood disorder that needed occasional transfusions, so I got into the routine of donating then.

Rick is also a regular donor.

I have not been as often lately as I now take care of my granddaughter on Saturdays, which is the only day the blood bank hours work for me.

 

I am a regular donor. I have B+ which is not too common.

 

I went through a giving phase when I was younger. Gave 5 gallons - that's 40 pints.

Now they probably wouldn't want my blood.

I am B+ and have been donating off and on (skipped a few years, but I am back in the habit again) since the mid 1970's. For me it is a way to celebrate my good health and do something positive that money alone can not buy. I have given gallons (never really kept track) over the years. I was, and I am back on the eight week cycle. I cannot give again until next month.

 

Lainey, The Red Cross has many 'Blood Donor' locations around Philly and a website to find them.....any day of the week....often in churches/ synagogues/ colleges, etc.

There is probably a web site that lists sites/ hours/ etc...aren't you near Boston? NO more excuses
