Thumbs up AUDI....100 years old

Autoweek just arrived with a Supplement titled "100 years of AUDI"

The company founder August Horch was in the "wagen" biz as early as 1899, but really started his OWN company in 1909. As there were trademark issues with using his own name, he came up with AUDI as the direct Latin translation of "Hear This"

As Dave and Herman can tell us, the company has had a long history in racing and building innovative cars ("Quattro", for example ). I'm just wondering how many of US have had experiences with the marque over the years...and even up to date (dlq04 and maybe others )

Full disclosure: I'll be coming back to check the FIRST option and tell that story later

OFFERING: I have read the above-mentioned special supplement. If there is someone who doesn't subscribe to AutoWeek and would like to have it, please PM your name/ mailing address to me. First come/ first served

Voted, never owned, likely I never will.

My sister has the A4 I believe, bought it about 18 months ago and is quite happy with it.

We have always owned the Lexus brand but Audi is a great car and I have friends who love them. Now if I could affort the R8 it would be one of my top choices.

Drove the Audi TT when it came out about 9 years ago. 1.8T. Boy was that car fun. Had uber bells and whistles too. Probably had some features I never figured out.

They're fun...til they break. then it's uber $$$ to repair.

Never owned one, and likely never will. I'm impressed with the current styling of some models (except the "rope lights" around the headlights), and their innovative German engineering. However, everyone I've known that has owned an Audi had reliability issues...especially electrical. J.D. Powers rates Audi at 6 out of a possible 10. Not good enough for me to consider owning one.

I never owned one, but a close friend owned a Audi 5000. I learned to wear comfortable walking shoes when traveling with him in that particular car.

Nancy worked with a guy that had an A6, which the paint literally fell of of, and then there were the mechanical problems.
In the 80s I worked with a guy that had a 100LS and his was like MsP's.
I worked with a guy who bought a TT when I bought my S. He was a real Audi fan, and was as happy with it as I was with mine. That lasted 6 months, after 3 turbos and countless ECMs he, finally got rid of it, you'll notice I didn't say sell. He gave it away 2 years after he bought it for about 25% of what he paid for it. Audi refused to do anymore work on the car, and told him it was his fault. I guess that also qualifies as a lemon.
Never owned one and have had enough of Euro-cars for this lifetime, never will, but I wouldn't mind driving an R8 once.

I've had two Audis, both in my youth. My first was a 85 Coupe GT. Bought it used w/12k miles, put another 70k miles on it. Never had any issues with it, just brakes and tires. Very good car but I traded it on a 86 5000CS Turbo Quattro Wagon (now thats a mouthful). It had 15k miles on the clock and I ran it up to around 70k miles as well. That one had a bad starter at around 60k but that was it. Terrific car, fast, good handling, roomy and it was a five-speed manual. But the horror stories began to spook me as the miles rolled up, so I traded it on a new 93 Accord and have been Honda ever since.

I've always loved the A8s and almost bought one last time around but just couldn't get over the bad reliability cloud.

We almost bought a VW Dasher wagon once (which was rebadged as the Audi Fox wagon, not to be confused with the VW Fox wagon later). Our neighbor had an Audi 8000 (?) and when the "sudden acceleration" problem started, we stopped considering them.
