I agree a great finish although I honestly thought there might be more shuffling down the stretch.
Erin Hills is one of my favorite courses.
The good news is it's a 1,000 miles from home or I would be
miss that green and you tumble down the hill.
in fact there are a lot of holes with clever little false fronts and nasty back edges the run far far away.
I have a hard time conceiving what they do differently than I do in order to hit a 676 yard par five in two.
If I had a pure on the screws drive followed by a pure 3 wood, I still had a 7 iron in my hands and I was teeing off 40 yards in front of them.
and I still didn't hit the damn green.
musta been the lack of tail wind, yeah that's it, I didn't have a tailwind.
I think the purists will still carry on about not being a true US Open course.
but it was a heck of a course.

- a member
- 160 lbs from walking the 10 miles of the course frequently
- dead from a heart attack walking the 10 miles of the course.

I don't think the tee to green yardages are always accurate, especially on the par fives. Plus that was playing downhill, and the 3 woods they hit are more like driver with the loft etc.
Have you ever hit a professional's iron? I normally hit a 7iron ~155-165 or so, and earlier this year there was a clinic that a world famous pro put on at Bella Collina, and his lofts where so much stronger than what we use. I'd bet his 7 was more like my 5iron.

loft creep has been going on for while.
taylormade made a big jump with the M2 and M1 irons. almost a full iron.
My old big bertha irons are almost two full clubs from the M2's

As I have been thinking about the Open.
I think they did a great job with the set up.
It was very hard to snuggle ball up to the pins from the fairways.
How many times did you see a fairway shot inside a hula hoop of the pin?
It seemed like most first putts were 20 to 25 feet at a minimum if not 40 to 50.
If you went straight at pins it was at your own peril.
