I like the BRZ but the 2022 production year has ended , one needs to wait for the 23's to start up later down the road it seems. The only other car they have is the WRX, I don't mind it at all, but the 2.4l engine has much worse fuel economy than my 2L. Interior upgrades are nice, but still no heated steering wheel which my son always wants, lol.

It's tough going from an AWD car to RWD in a snowy climate. I really like the BRZ too.

Yup I agree, same thing in our region. I will look at the new WRX but it needs more to attract me from what I read on it.

Savagegeese did a really good review on it and they actually liked it quite a bit, where they tended to trash the older gens in the past. I was surprised by their recent review, I wasn't expecting them to like it. The numbers don't reveal the whole story when looking at the engine specs.

I visited my Subaru dealer today as they showed interest in my 2019 WRX, and the pricing right now is just too good to ignore on used cars. I can unload a 3 year old leased WRX that is out of warranty. They will get me into a brand new WRX and pay me $6,500 in equity on the used car, not very commonly seen on leased vehicles. I don't have to fix anything on the car. I can keep driving the car until the new WRX arrives with no limit on mileage. I return the vehicle to them with residual value of $20,000, and I get $6,500 paid to me upon return to use as equity.

I test drove the new WRX today for the first time. It isn't a revolutionary change, more of a mild redesign. I can get over the exterior appearance stuff some people have complained about, but I'm okay with it. I get a full warranty again with roadside assistance and all that stuff. The steering and suspension is improved, and slightly better brakes, I like the new ventilated rear brakes. The new model has keyless entry , remote start (needed in Canada !), Harman Kardon stereo. The power level feels the same but the motor pulls all they way to redline with no funky power dip like past versions , redline is a bit low though (6k). The new center infotainment is huge. They have a silver WRX on the way from Japan, and I can drive my current car until that comes in. I test drove the 6 speed manual which is really sharp, but we are getting the SPT transmission. The new SPT transmission shifts much faster up and down, and it holds gearing in corners, and has rev match downshift, pretty slick for an auto. They say it shifts faster than any person shifting a manual.

I wasn't going to consider a change but values are so good on used cars, and that could change 6 months down the road. I would have been into a BRZ but the 23 models won't arrive until early fall, 22 production orders are done.

I don't understand the rational behind personal leases unless it is a really good deal.
of course your Canadian tax situation may drive you to different conclusions than they might stateside as well.

Yeah I lease for a couple of reasons. I use my vehicles for work , so I can write off the monthly lease quite easily, it is just a simple write off. If I own the vehicle I can get a big write-off the first year, and then a declining amount subsequent years. I also don't like paying all the tax on a vehicle upon purchase, with leasing I just pay tax on the monthly payment. If I get rid of the car after a few years I haven't paid all that tax up front, and you never get that money back once it is paid. Our tax is 13% so it adds up. I also like having a residual value that is known and guaranteed, at the end of the lease you know what numbers you are dealing with. When you own a vehicle outright you never quite know that value of it in the future. I've had lots of dealers sell me cars, then after a few years you want to trade them in and they tell you they are worth next to nothing. I like the certainty of the residual value on the leased vehicle, no surprises at the end.
