We had a couple of wagons when I was a kid. A '56 Ford bought used, and we didn't keep it long. Fix or repair daily on that one. Then we had a '59 Chevy. The yellow and green combo. Very cool!
A co worker had a 1986 Buick LaSabre wagon. Fully loaded and huge! It was like driving around on the living room couch. He kept that thing until 2008, I believe. Traded it in on the "cash for clunkers" deal.

The first new car I remember in our family was a 1958 Ford station wagon, tan and white. We drove that to California from Kansas several times with our family of six. One time in the desert of Arizona or Nevada, a suitcase tied to the roof came loose and broke open on the highway. I remember picking up underwear and clothes off the highway.

We started with a 73 torino wagon when I was a kid, my Dad traded his 63 galaxie covertible black with red interior and white top and had a 390 I think. The torino had a bad head and we kept breaking down with it so my Dad ended up buying another wagon from his boss which was a 73 Chrysler town n' country with a 440. After that his boss gave him a company car 1st was a Volare' wagon with a slant six, then 2 Kcar wagens one with a 2.2 4 cylinder and one with a 2.5 4 banger.

I test drove an E63 wagon a few years back, ride was awful and overly stiff, and the interior felt old/dated to me. I was quite disappointed.

With a family starting, I had a 1966 Chevrolet Impala with a (scalloped head) 409 big block engine. much like this one. It was very fast and comfortable - and I thought it was

beautiful as well. But sixties station wagons were already really huge vehicles. I always thought the 1965-66 Impalas were the nicest Chevy designs after the 50s shoebox Chevys..

Here is the front of our very large station wagon camping in Normandy, France. We lived outside Paris for three years in the early 60s. I believe it is a Pontiac Bonneville.
