Honda battery gave up the ghost very suddenly. It was fine on Wednesday, dead as a door nail on Thursday. (I'll have to google where that expression comes from). Rick replaced it already. I think it's the third battery in 20 years.

I had noticed that in my records for my S last time I replaced the battery it was in the month of July which struck me as odd as that is in the middle of the driving season and I don’t remember it suddenly dying but maybe it did or maybe I had it tested and it came back low. I replaced the battery for the first time in may of 2011 and then again in July of 2018 which is the current one in the S. (pun intended)

I think the S2000 battery suffers from underhood heat

‘They’ say that heat in the summer kills a battery worse than cold in the winter, I always thought the cold was worse. I think having a vehicle with a lot of electrical gizmos wears a battery faster than a stripped down base type vehicle. I bought both my Toyota trucks used and had them each for over nine years and never had to replace the battery in either. They were both basic with rolldown windows etc.

The S2000 battery sits too close to the exhaust manifold IMO, even with the heatshield in place, no bueno.

You beat me to saying. For sure, summer kills more but doesn't get as much swearing as when you are deep in snow.

You have the details you want without having to take you eyes off of the road.
You know what I am going to say . . . not a one of those things would mean anything to me. I can instantly reset my clock by pushing two buttons.... now that's what I like when it happens twice a year. I can park for a month and my truck will still start; some of the new stuff doesn't last 3 days at an airport. Now that's what I like. Any decent mechanic anywhere in America can work on it . . . now that's what I really like.

I think this is the second time the battery died in the summer. The first one was after the uncovering in the spring. Now it doesn't get covered during the winter, but used.

Cheap money to keep a 20+ year old car moving.

I use battery tenders all winter on my MG and my John Deere. But just because it's New doesn't mean it's Good. I've replaced two batteries on my MG within 10 months. Duralast 26R's from AutoZone. They were good & got my $ back but I think most batteries these days, at least for my MG, are junk made in China and are rebadged to be any brand you want. My latest replacement is Super Smart from O'Reilly Auto Parts. Hope it lives up to the funny name. Oh, but I do think Honda reconditioned or whatever term they use are a really good battery .... what the heck a 100 month warranty; can't beat that.

Rick has a tender on the Porsche in the winter. Lots of electronics so that lesson was learned quickly. He didn't bother with a battery tender on the Honda back in the day. First battery still lasted 7 years. I think he has a couple other batteries on chargers over the winter. Not sure, that's not my department. I'm finance, family and entertainment and cleaning.
