you haven't earned your man card until you have pulled out and torn down a motor you personally rendered recyclable.
In my case it was a 1098cc 4 pot from my sprite. One piston had a hole burned through it the size of my pinkie.
I wish I had cleaned it up and saved it.

Story time. In 1999 I bought a 3 year old V6 Commodore, with the mighty 200hp Buick 3800 under the hood, a single-spinner diff out back and 4L60E auto in between, bought with 63,000 miles of boat-towing neglect on it. The auto had a flare on the 3-2 kickdown, and the engine had a variety of leaks from never being serviced, so I figured I'd swap everything out for a more decent setup when one or all let go. I put some 18s on it for better traction and lowered it for better handling, then waited for the inevitable explosion from the front, middle and/or back. I fixed up various leaks but it went for about 8 years without an oil change because I didn't want to encourage it.
In 2018, 160,000 miles later, I sent it to the crusher, still with the original (but less leaky) 3800, single-spinner, and 4L60E with a flare on the 3-2 kickdown.
I still miss it every now and then.
