Thinking if they can run it on the lift with one mechanic underneath may be the best way to figure it out. I’m curious to know what it is, could be a few different things.
I might look at the emergency brake. If it was parked for a while the inner brake shoe may not have retracted all of the way.
Jack it up in neutral and spin each wheel. or pull and release the handle a half dozen times.
it could also be a stick caught under the car and rubbing on the driveshaft.
Matt at the shop texted me. He heard the video and knows the sound. It's not happening for him. UGH!!!! I offered to stop over, take the car out until I do hear it, then bring it back to him. Maybe it requires some heat or something loosening up?
He did ask about this groove on the inside of the front left rim. It's the only one with it. I'm thinking manufacturing difference. He mentioned he doesn't see anything near it or hitting it that would cause it.
The hope, as mentioned, if I can get the noise to appear - then get it on the lift while running and get a definitive of where to look.
I head to the shop. Grab the car go for a ride. Maybe 30 minutes - enough time for things to warm up and get some heat. Hear the noise as I'm slowing down (the original symptom), Head back to shop, wait a few minutes, get the other mechanic, drive, slow, drive, slow. nothing! Go up and down the block a few times. Noise returns. Matt gets in, and hears it! So, we've now ruled out insanity.
He thinks either the backing plate or something in the caliper. At least he has something to start with!
