Back in the late '90s/early '00s I went to a hillclimb event where a guy had entered with his 22B, and owning it naturally made him a rallying god. He crashed it at about 30mph on a gentle corner on the recce run. Never saw him again.

Back in teh 70's I used to autocross my renault r5 also known as the lecar.
There was 4 or 5 of us at one point.
Of the group, kenny payson, was routinely quickest driving a sponsored car.
He also ran factory stock at production stock racing events at lime rock and such.
Another particular fellow had done a lot to his car in the search of speed but never could find it.
At an event he asked Kenny to drive his for a suggestion on what teh car needed.
Kenny went out and bested the guys time by several seconds, which is hard to do on a track that's only ~60 seconds.
" it feels good to me, but I was afraid to really push it since it's not my car"
yep we never saw the guy again.
They say you should never meet your heroes but the whole self-examination is tough as well.
It's probably why a lot of folks hate golf.

I find it helps to remind myself I suck at driving before attending events, so I'm only ever pleasantly surprised if things go well. I took my old K20A-powered EK4 Civic drag racing a couple of times, and started getting frustrated that my best runs were always 13.9 @ 101.xx mph. Eventually I sold it to a guy who had a lot of import drag racing experience, and the best he could with the same setup was a 14.2.
Some months after selling it I realised the issue - the motor was from a JDM DC5 Integra Type R so had a 112mph limiter. Since the EK4 wheel and tire size was smaller than the DC5, the limited top speed with the stock ECU was...101.28mph.
That car was a really fun package, low miles with Spoon suspension and brake upgrades to go with the K-swap. I sold it right after our first child was born since a small hatch isn't a practical family car, and our other car was a large 4-door sedan. If the EK was a 4-door we would have kept that instead, and I'd probably still have it instead of the S, even after 16 years.

How about a grainy, shaky Youtube clip of a bad run from 2005 that doesn't show the full race?
Solid VTECyo changeover though. And yes, those are genuine Volk TE37s on the back, and borrowed DC2 blades with Toyo R888s on the front. You're good at this.
