A member here works for Nissan, he's got one as a fleet car, he likes it. He's not a small guy and I haven't heard him complain.

A buddy of mine sold his father in law's 1999 Grand Cherokee to me with 70K miles. It now has 110K miles and is my all around go anywhere/haul anything vehicle. Terrible gas milage. Said friend now wants to sell his 2015 Subaru Outback (with the V6). I am considering getting that to replace the Jeep. The Jeep has actually doubled value.

However, I am concerned about the reports of CV boot/bearing failures and leaking oil from multiple gaskets. I had a Subaru wagon in the early 80s and I cannot tell you how terrible the build quality was and how many CV boots I replaced. Even the internal seat structure failed!

Any reports from the Vintage group on these Subarus? (No jokes about lesbians driving them!!!)

Cosmo, I owned a 2002 Subaru Forrester. The transfer case went out on me, on a winter snow vacation. It stranded me for three days, while a new one could be delivered from another state. Prolly had less than 20K miles on the car.

I will never own another Subaru again!

Vantage starts around $140k+ so about the same money Acura was asking back in 2017 for the NSX. They had a tough time selling them, '22 was the last year. The Type S was $170k+ new, as tested price was knocking on $200k.
This one is a 2022. The owner told me he had it delivered from Highland Ranch, CO. It was the one he wanted. I know 4 seconds isn't slow but I was being obnoxioius since my NSX is around 3 seconds. I think this one is a Vantage coupe F1 edition. I had no idea the price was similar to an NSX. Thank you for the info.

We owned three Subaru Outbacks. '98 and '01 were bullet proof. The '08 was not: Donna logged nearly 108,000 miles by September 2018. While this was her third Outback, and she was brand loyal, this one had its issues. The cylinder head gasket failed at 62,000 miles. Subaru paid half the $1,500 cost. There were recalls for the brake pipe, ECM reprograming, and passenger side air bag. The front catalytic converter failed. The rear strut assembly failed and lots of small issues such as loose & missing engine mount nuts for torque bars, needing a front axle boot kit, rear sway bar looseness, replacing four noisy heat shields from the center pipe back, plus replacing a torn left front inner axle boot.

4Runner needs a new engine, badly. We test drove them before getting our Jeep and the engine really lets the vehicle down. Fantastic truck otherwise.

I also have a 2002 base model Tacoma extra cab that now has 113,000 miles on it. Smallest 4 banger, 5 speed manual, manual windows. The most bulletproof vehicle I have ever owned. Toyota knocked it out of the ballpark with that one. All I have done in all those years is replace the upstream O2 sensor. I can fluids on a regular basis and use Mobil 1. I can have a loader pour gravel, decomposed granite, shredded bark, whatever, and it just goes.

Maybe I will stick with the Jeep. Anyone one else with Subaru stories?
