I have my auto insurance with USAA. USAA apparently has an app. that tracks your driving habits from using phone while driving to harsh breaking. I have been on this app for about one month and my driving score is only 83 which is not that great. In that one month, I have not had a single instance of receiving call or making a call while driving but because of 2 instances of harsh breaking, my score is low. I will see if my score improves. By the way, with high score, you get insurance discount with USAA.

And I believe it's illegal to raise your rates because of a low score. I tried it for a month when I switched auto a few years ago. You have to drive like a granny to keep a good score, and not Granny-Rod or any of the other Grannies that are in this group.

The other thing I noticed is that the discount is only for one portion of the insurance. So saving 10% on the $200 part, not the $1000 part is a whopping $20 bucks a year. No thanks, I'll drive my car how I want.

Apparently? You would have had to load and enable the app. Automotive enthusiasts do not use "safe driving" tattletales to get a discount. All they will do is rat you out.

I did not know USAA has that app but other companies do and advertise it all the time. If you have an accident, that app will rat you out as far as operating conditions. No thank you.

I know better than to even try that ap. Instead of getting a discount they would likely suspend my insurance.
Several of my later model year vehicles have those little alerts warning of pending collision.
I usually don't hear it more than a few times....a year a month a week a day per trip per mile.
I rarely occasionally sometimes frequently use full throttle or full brakes.

What's the point in having a throttle or brakes if you can't use ALL of them!

This USAA app has four monitoring categories: Phone handling, Hand-Held Calling, Hands-Free Calling and Harsh Braking. My score is now up to 84 since I have no infraction in any of these categories other than one harsh braking infraction. I have become more aware of not utilizing my phone at all while I am driving. I think this is actually good in my case.

What I do in my car is no damn business of my insurance company, or anyone else for that matter.

It appears that Mercedes Benz is going to nearly ditch the Coupe body style and totally ditch the Station Wagon body style in the near future. This article from Car and Driver magazine says that only 14 of 33 current body styles will survive.
