That's nuts but HOA do have rules. . . and that's not an attractive truck in my mind.

I think he should hire it just because it is butt ugly!

I am always amazed by people complaining about their HOA rules. Doesn't anyone read the rules BEFORE they buy. I sure did.

If what I read is interpreted correctly, the HOA rules that bans pickup trucks is thought to be synonymous with commercial vehicles, presumably based on their position decades ago.

In my development, the restriction is on commercial vehicles, determined by license plates and not vehicle type. My neighbor's son (we share a driveway) has a Dodge Ram 2500, with ladder racks and toolboxes on the back. However, he has personal plates and not commercial. He can park here. Another neighbor with a small Toyota truck and commercial plates is requested to park on the service road.

But... it all comes down to reading the rules as Scoots says. The HOA is made out to be the bad guy here, and they shouldn't be.

Did you come across any rules you especially liked or didn't like?

In my small HOA IN Colorado you can't have hooved animals. That's okay by me. When I lived in Acton CA, there were horses and cows nearby and sometimes the smell was nasty. Three doors down in CO, and not in the HOA, the lady has a donkey. I love hearing it. Other neighbors chickens. Trailers and RVs aren't allowed to be parked outside. Some neighbors have tall garages for theirs. I had planned to buy a small RV in January 2020 but it was too tall to go into my detached garage. I had contractors out to see about making the opening taller but it wasn't going to be enough. I'm glad, now. I decided to buy the 2017 NSX instead. It fits fine.





The HOA in California is huge and tells you you must submit your colors for approval if you want to paint your house. Most of the monthly fee goes to landscape maintenance. What really pisses me off in California is not the HOA's fault. My house is inside the city of Lake Forest and in our neighborhood you can't park your car on the street, right in front of your own house, if you haven't purchased and annual pass. When I first bought the house in February 2008, you got two passes to hang on your rearview mirror, for free. I pay over $11,000 a year in property taxes and I can't park in front of my own house.

I was on our HOA board until a month ago. We made a new rule last year that nobody could buy a house here that had a moniker of TOF. That was just in case Mike decided to move to California.

Patty, our HOA has paint books that you must pick your house color from if you repaint. Lots of choices, but it stops some idiot from going lime green. We also have a rule against parking anything on the street for more than one or two nights. But everyone has a two or three car garage and a two car drive, so if you can’t find room there, you need to sell something.
We also have a very nice neighborhood, and people come from around the area to walk their dogs here and look at the ducks and geese in our ponds. 99% of the rules make sense.

While I appreciate the consideration and special treatment, I don't think you will see us pulling up in a U-Haul any time soon.

Same here Mike. We have a great neighborhood without having a HOA.
