Thumbs up Airlines: Good or Bad Ones, in your Experiences?

Are there any airlines you find especially good or disappointing?

Any you prefer to fly on and any you try to avoid? ...and why?

I hate US Airways but I'll post why later.

I hate USAIR too, and I have spent countless hours on their planes, waiting for their planes, cussing about their planes, and trying to get on someone else' planes.
We have had success recently with Continental and Spirit.

For international travel, I've never had issues with Qantas, Air New Zealand, or British Airways. Delta and United, however, weren't so great.

Domestic, I pretty much only fly Continental, since they have a major hub here in CLE. I've never had any real complaints about them. They're usually the cheapest, and have direct flights wherever I'm going, most of the time. Nice people, decent service.

Continental is the best. When I traveled wth my late wife they treated her like a queen. That means a lot to me.

Please don't let my upcoming flight on US Air be a nightmare

US Air problems, had a good experience with Air Jamaica. Wonderful service and a party atmosphere on our trip to Jamaica.

Good ones: American, Delta, United...in the 1960s and 1970s.

Not so good: American, Delta, United, Northwest, USAir, Continental, and various regional carriers in more recent times.

South West seems to always get us where we want to go, cheaply, and on time. Nothing fancy, but we've always had an equal number of take-offs and landings.
When we went to Spain, Brithish Air bent over backwards to help us when security forced us to miss our connecting flight with another airline.

^^^I agree re: British Airways. Our one (and only) experience with them was phenomenal (we even got an upgrade to Business Class when circumstances caused us to delay our trip by one day...long story, but not their fault.)

Southwest has a great business model, and my experience with them has also been positive.

My next door neighbor was a captain for United until 5 years ago (when he took an early retirement before the funds ran out), and he does not have many positive things to say about their management. My one flight with United was less than ideal, also.

Of course, YMMV.

I haven't flown now in 3+ years, but when I was flying two or three times/month, mostly internationally, I was a STAR Alliance member. I flew mostly United and Lufthansa. I was never disappointed with the service. Of course, I am a flyer that once the wheels are up and the food has been served, and my usual glass of Cognac, the next thing I would hear is we are now decending into Narita or wherever I was going.

The worse airline I ever flew on was SABENA, BTW stands for Such A Bloody Experience Never Again.

The #1 airline, in my opinion: Big Ball Airline
