This morning's excitement: Our dog was going wild on the porch sniffing and chasing something that ran under a cabinet. I went to investigate and out came a baby rabbit. Well, the chase resumed with vigor. Apparently the cat had been patrolling the property and decided to bring us a "gift." The dog took it as a delivered tasty breakfast. Unfortunately, the rabbit met his maker and our dog filled her stomach, since I was unable to catch her to save the bunny. So far, no gastro-intestinal issues have occurred.
Oh, the joys of pet ownership!

That was a nice up-lifting story.

Poor little bunny. Sally loves to catch and kill moles out in the yard. I have to watch her like a hawk and she becomes highly indignant when I take the mole away from her and don't let her eat it.

We have a resident Rabbit who is either very brave or very stupid. He/she sits on the lawn and when Sydney (our Terrier) goes out he/she just watches Syd but usually only moves if the dog gets too close then Terrier instincts kick in and the chase is on Since Sydney is on a long lead the rabbit gets away

The rabbit make me think of our last mastiff.
He never chased anything except one night when he went out the front door and about 10 feet away was a cottontail bunny nibbling our lawn.
Gabe decided to make the run for the bunny but before he could make his second full stride the bunny was sixty feet away safely in the woods.
Sort of like watching a drag race between a liter sport bike and a fully loaded tractor trailer.

Makes me think of Elmer Fudd and Bugs Bunny.

I know this is off-topic, but this morning's excitement involved the cat bringing a house finch, into our master bath, which also got the dog's attention, and another chase transpired. Luckily, I was able to catch the bird in the shower stall, and when I released it on the deck, it flew away. At least the cat just plays with her prey, while the dog, apparently, sees them as breakfast. Terriers were bred to "go to ground" to route out little varmints, so we shouldn't be surprised, I guess.

gene, were you using the shower at the time?
the mental image of a buck naked, dripping wet, gene chasing a little bird around makes me chuckle..

Sorry to spoil your image, but, no, I was not in the shower. Actually, we were still in bed.
