All thanks go to Dave for his "on this day" post. I just did a quick google search.

Likely true. It's like the guys I used to work with who would put fingers where they didn't belong in machinery that was moving. Sometimes, people take stupid chances, and often they are rewarded for their stupidity with $$.

I think most of us know what happens to the workers' compensation insurance premium when claims have to be reported due to someone taking a chance.....

Oregon State Univ. had published a report on the temperature at which coffee should be served https://foodsci.oregonstate.edu/site...t-bev-temp.pdf
The study states that coffee should be served commercially at 130-160 F. McDonalds was serving at 190F at the time and still is at 180F.

yeah I was going to say the temperature for the best tasting coffee is much lower than what McDonalds would need to serve it at, so they are going overboard on temps. Even my perfectly frothed and steamed cappuccino milk doesn't go beyond 150 degrees , and by the time I put it in my cup and serve it the temp has gone down a good bit. McDonalds was playing with fire at those temps, no idea who would have come up with that serving temp.

This is why I don't drink coffee. The last thing I need to do is burn the jewels!
