2007 is the last year...

As to the 2008 issue, it could be that Sam meant the end of 2008. The write up appeared in an article about 2008 models, so that is a possibility. It could also mean that 2008s will be a bunch of left-over 2007s as sometimes happens.
Sales levels for the S2000 are low compared to the cars in the Miata category. The market has spoken. It would rather have a car with 85% of the performance at 75% of the price.

Funny....I rather consider the S based on 100% of the std Boxster performance at 67% of the price! I guess the 'market' just can't deal with the non-status/ prestige of the Honda nameplate. Too bad for the masses....

You know that you might all be jumping to conclusions. There has been talk of discontinuing the model since 2002.
As for the sales numbers, the S2000 always represented just a small percentage as compared to the Miata, that hasn't changed, and Honda has always been content with that. I don't think that is significant. The important number is the sales of the S as compared to previous years sales. That has fallen, and that might be a signal of something, but its really hard to tell exactly what Honda has in mind.
Still, I'm not convinced that the S2000 is at the end of its run.
I actually thought that 2006 was the last year of the S2000 based upon the company's lack of promotion of the model, and based upon the promotion and commotion over the Si. I was pretty much convinced that the S was at the end of it's line. Still, inspite of the fact that Honda more or less ignored the model, they continued to produce it and make it available.
It seems to me that unless the model stops selling or slows to the point where Honda is actually losing money on it, they will continue to produce it. It is very hard to know how Honda works.

The quandary: How to redo the S2000 and will there be one?
December 2004 Car magazine said Honda had no S2000 replacement in the works.
January 2005 Road & Track magazine said S2000 may face cancellation in 2006-2007.
June 2005 CanadianDriver said the word was 2006 is the last year for the Honda S2000.
September 2005 What Car said the next-generation S2000 would arrive in 2009. Then in October 2005 UK

That was true but no longer in my opinion. A 295 hp Boxster S will beat the S2000 in any category that matters except price and quality; and price is debatable if you accept the fact you are paying $10k for the name and history of Porsche racing/respect......
*Boxster S, msrp $55,500; 5 year cost to own $79,900 (16k/yr)
*S2000, msrp $34,250; 5 year cost to own $62,475 (12.5/yr)
For some, I guess $3.5/yr more is worth it for the 'history/heritage'; more torque; more gizmos; inferior shifter; more snob value. Personally, although I could afford the extra $20k, I like the 'everyman stealth' of the S (top of the Honda marque) vs. the entry level status of the B-S (almost the bottom of the Porsche marque).
Hmmmm....on a value basis, the B-S costs ~60% more but the 5 yr cost is only ~30% more. Maybe it is a better deal.....if you can stand the Porsche snobs looking down their nose @ you

I love the Porsche Boxster and would love to own one if the maintenance factor weren't so expensive BECAUSE I'd have to travel a minimum of 50 miles to a Porsche dealer for repair/maintenance, etc. I could have bought one Boxster and maintained it for the price I've paid in tires, maintenance and the ownership of two S2000s. The Boxster has a comfort factor and other features the S does not have, but the Porsche community is not as friendly and enjoyable as the S community, so I guess I can thank most of you for the reason I'm still in an S2000. As far as the snob feature goes, I could care less. I am and always have been basically a loner/introvert and you folks have contributed to my being more outgoing than I've ever been in my life, so I don't care about snobbery. I do what I want, go where I want, drive what I want, live where I want and don't care about who sees it, envies it, wants it, etc. I just drive what feels good to me and I think most of the folks on this forum are pretty much the same. I suspect that many (if not most) of you could drive something more expensive if you made the choice, but you went out and tried out an S, loved the way it fit and bought it. There's no reason to spend more than you have to in order to drive what feels great, right?
