Default 2007 is the last year...

Road and Track editor Sam Mitani reports that the S2000 will depart the end of this year. A replacement roadster will be introduced in 2009. The new car will compete in the Miata segment and cost less than the current S. HP is expected to be around 200 using the Civic motor in a RWD configuration. This is reported in the June issue of R&T.

I read that article too,and I have a strong tendency to beleive,it's true.
Honda sales, for the "S"have been going down every year;too expensive to compete with the Solstice,Miata, and the likes...and not fast enough to compete with the big boys...Porsche,Mercedes,etc...
So,what do you all think about this???Sad...,Happy...,Indifferent...???

Can't be. 2002 was the last year. That's what my dealer told me.

All kidding aside, its really hard to know what to believe. There are so many conflicting stories every year that the best thing to do is to wait and see.

Besides, didn't the brochure fron Honda on the CR version say that both trim levels will be available for 2008? (as zdave87b mentioned). Honda already officially declared that there will be an S in 2008. Why haven't the R&T editors heard about this?

Seems like none of the magazines/car journalists have heard about the CR. Maybe it's just a late April Fools joke?

I think the market has spoken. S2K is a great sports convertible but it is a bit pricy for those who are looking for fun sports convertible in Miata's price range. With Miata's hardtop covertible, it is an attractive car, in my view over S2K. It is unfortunate but I think it was inevitable.

All good things must come to an end, but not for me as I will keep this car as long as it runs.

If I knew for sure, I'd be looking for an 07 to buy. With my increasing mileage I'll have to upgrade sooner or later -- or replace worn out parts.

That description of a dumbed down 09 doesn't sound very attractive. I had thought that Honda was actually making money with the S, and that they were happy with the numbers.

Each year the S is produced it has changes that make it not quite as exciting as the original S was. If it is produced for many more years, the result will never be as pleasing and exciting as the first year. I'm glad I moved into the '06 and will keep it for a number of years. If you enjoy your car a great deal (and I'm sure you do), I'd seriously consider a new one. I do not think the replacement vehicle for the S2000 will be as fun a car for someone who's had an original. I'm still struggling with the lower redline and the change in the gearbox in my new one. However, those changes are insignificant compared to the chatter about the replacement car. I thoroughly enjoy the better radio/cd player in the new one and am embarrassed to admit I love the inside thermometer, so those changes/additions are great.
