Welcome to the 2nd Annual Vintage Buckeye Run! This event will be held the weekend of July 15, 16 & 17, 2005, just in time to cure your Spring Fling withdrawal pains. The starting point will be my house in Northeast Ohio about 25 miles southeast of Cleveland, and will conclude in Southeast Ohio in a small town called Marietta on the Ohio/West Virginia border. Event details are as follows:


Friday, July 15, 2005 - Arrival & Social

- We will be prepared for arrivals at my house any time after 2PM. For those who want to arrive early to maximize socializing, feel free to come then.

- "Official" socializing will begin at 5PM with appetizers.

- We will be having a cookout and dinner will be served around 7PM. The menu is currently being developed. We will be providing the meats and soft drinks/coffee and our "helpers" Virginija (JonasM +1) and Carmen (spt-s2k +1) will be coordinating and preparing the sides and desserts.

- After dinner will be more socializing (I have a pool table if anyone wants to throw down the gauntlet .). This will go as late as everyone wants.

Saturday, July 16, 2005 - Ohio Route 26 Drive

This road has been identified as one of the 100 best drives in the U.S.A. There are lots of twisties and elevation changes along a river route in the country. We also pass many covered bridges. It is important that we stay on schedule this day. Please fill up your tank with fuel BEFORE arriving at my house. For those staying at the Country Inn & Suites or the Baymont Inn & Suites, there is a BP right next to the hotel. For those staying at the Hilton Garden Inn, there is a BP to the east and across the street.

- Arrive at my house at 8:30AM. We will depart at 9AM SHARP. I will be leading one group away, Sam will be leading the 2nd group and Jonas will lead a 3rd group.

- We will proceed south on Ohio Route 8 through Akron & Canton (past the Pro Football Hall of Fame...get camera ready) and then I-77 south to the Dover - New Philadelphia area. We will break off at this point and begin the drive.

- We will proceed via back roads to Salt Fork State Park and will be having lunch at the lodge. (www.saltforkresort.com). There is a great photo op by the golf course. However, since this trip will be "in season", we may not have a clear spot for the shoot. We'll have to play this by ear.

- After lunch we will continue the drive. We will stop at Woodsfield Ohio for a break.

- After the break we will proceed for the remainder of the drive to Marietta. These will be some of the best sections of Route 26.

- Upon arrival in Marietta we will proceed to the Hampton Inn. Usually they are kind enough to hook up a hose or two for washing the cars, but there are no guarantees. Bring your washing supplies if you care to wash your car. We should have ample time to check in, wash cars, shower, etc.

- We will proceed together to the Marietta Brewing Company for dinner at 7PM. We need to go together because there is a hidden, but large, well-lighted parking lot for us all to park in.

- After dinner we will proceed back to the Hampton and determine who will be hosting the afterprom party.

I had to select a hodge podge of rooms in order to secure 20. We have 9 "King" rooms at $79 per night, 7 "Doubles" also at $79 per night and 2 "Whirlpool" rooms at $114 per night. Most rooms are non-smoking. These rooms will be held until June 25th, at which time they will be released.


Sunday, July 17, 2005 - Depart

- On Sunday morning we will meet at 9AM in the hotel for a continental breakfast. After breakfast we will have time for goodbyes. For those traveling east on I-70, you will be able to enjoy some of the drive in reverse up to I-70 around Cambridge Ohio. For those heading north, we will reverse the route and you can enjoy it a 2nd time.

DRIVE NOTES:

Whenever I have a drive I ask everyone to sign a waiver form. We will do this at my house on Saturday morning. I also will need to see your drivers license and insurance card to verify current insurance and licensing. I trust all of you but I do this as standard procedure for these drives. I will ask that we have a yellow, white or red car at the end of each group as it makes it easier for the leader to see. I will also ask that those at the end of the group communicate with their leader when we go through intersections so we know when the group has cleared. Please be aware that this is a country road and there CAN be farm equipment on it. So be alert and be careful. Please bring FRS radios and set them to channel 7, subchannel 0.

Magnets and T-Shirts:

Rob (ralper) and Burt (zcarcrazy) have been kind enough to design and coordinate distribution of event magnets and T-Shirts. I will try to post a picture of the design. Cost is $2 for the magnets and $9 for the T-Shirts sizes S, M, L, XL and $10 for sizes XXL and XXXL. If you would like either, please indicate quantity and size.

We'll have family in town that weekend, but I'll meet up with you guys for lunch @ Salt Fork and hang around in Marietta untill I feel like heading back. Any waivers or forms could be emailed to me (Luda_88@hotmail.com) or I could just sign them at Salt Fork. Keep in mind that I am 18, so you don't have to worry about me being a minor. As far as placement for me in the drive, I could be the white car at the back of the speedy pack. I do drive this road 3 times a week, and they don't call me Rocket for nothing. My +1 (whoever that may be) can man the radio for me. I'm really lookin forward to this, being that it will be my first official "drive".
