Default 2-yr/30,000 mile check

Search isn't working, so I started a new thread. I dropped off my car (2006) this morning for an oil change and other checks based on the Minder telling me to do the "B" check and 15% oil life. The dealer called me and said they recommend I do the 2-yr/30,000 mile checkup, which is more extensive fluid replacement, etc. It costs over $400. I said no, at least for now. Do you think I should have done it, even though I have only about 8K miles on the car? I can see changing the oil regularly since I think it loses its viscosity or whatever, but what about the rest of them (differential, etc)? You can tell I'm not a mechanic, although I am good about checking/adding oil and coolant.

Since you only have 8k on the car I don't see the urgency to do the service either.

Here's a link to some discussion on that topic.

Deb:

I also have an '06, but with a lot more miles (~34k). Because of the age and mileage, I changed all fluids when it turned over 30k before we went to Colorado for the Aspens Mini-Meet. Even though you only have 8k on your car, it might still be a good idea to change the brake fluid. Some fluids need to be changed due to age even if the mileage is low, and that's one of them.

Also, when you decide to have the differential lube changed, I (strongly) suggest using the LE1605. The first time I had mine changed, the mechanic used Mobil 1 75w90 Gear Lube, and my differential sounded (and felt) like it was grinding badly when I would do low speed, sharp turns. Patty said it felt and sounded like I had snow tires on the car. I switched to the LE1605, and it's been silky smooth and quiet ever since.

I always provide my own engine oil and filters to keep the cost down. However, the 30k check was still a little pricey since I also had to purchase a battery.

Got me; I was just doing a quick google to find the maintenance schedule as my book is out in the car.

Deb, I am confident you can safely go three years with all the items, including brake fluid, without any risk.

Personally I used Redline 75w90 differential fluid but my notes say Mobil 1 75w90 in the silver bottle is recommended by some pretty decent S2000 mechanics including XViper and Billman. I'm not sure what happened in your case but I doubt that is normal.

Only 8K on that car, Deb? PM me if you ever decide to sell....

Rick didn't change any fluids, except for oil until we hit 20K, and has done it at intervals of 20K. He has yet to change the brake fluid. That's on the "To do" list next spring.

Deb, i change my trans and diff fluids regularly and often. I have tried several of the fluids around and have been most satisfied with LE 1605 (LE607) in the differential. I get GM Syncromesh manual transmission fluid from a GM dealer for the transmission. The shifts are smoother. I agree with Jerry, since your car is two years old I would also change the brake fluid and the clutch fluid. But I do all of this myself so it is not nearly as expensive as the Honda prices -- because most of the charge is for labor.
