And I thought you ladies were going to tell me how to get through empty nest!

When Andy and I were riding our dirt bikes together on Saturday, I realized that we are going back where we started, before kids. When we were 16 he took me to desert races, since he raced cross country every Sunday, and I learned to ride his bikes. Now we have the S2000s to play with too. At least the dogs are still happy to be with us.

That's exactly how you get through "empty nest". You find something of common interest for the 2 of you to do together. You've already been working on the weaning process a little at a time....kids not wanting to spend quite so much time with Mom and Dad....daughter driving on her own and now son....daughter off to college and eventually same thing with son. It comes in stages so we don't feel the loss so acutely.

^ She is a darling, Lainey! I showed Andy and he said, "Ohh!, That's a cute kid there."

My husband, Andy, and I are both sad about them growing up. I mean we are happy they are such great kids but we miss them already because they have their own interests and they don't go with us on our weekend trips anymore. I guess this is why grandkids are so great, when they come.
Patty, I understand exactly what you are talking about here. As parents this is a major change in our family life, but it will bring you and the family different rewards! The children must go out on their own sooner or later, as long as it is for good reasons! Hang in there .
Yes the grandkids will be the next reward .

Thanks Patty!

The grandparent thing is great!

My digital camera gets plenty of work when she's around. She loves to pose, and then check out the picture.
