Just took a great vacation to Vegas. This is the first time that our kids joined us with their spouses and they paid their own way. It was neat that they wanted to go on vacation with us. The best part of the trip was that I have been looking for a specific Hirschfeld. I finally found it. It is a signed / numbered lithograph of Bogey (my hero) with the Maltese Falcon.
As an aside I do miss the Hirschfeld's in the Sunday Times. It was the first thing that I would look for to see how many Nina's were hidden.

I miss the Herschfeld's too. I could spend hours looking for the Ninas on Sunday mornings.

This morning I dressed up like a kind of down and out looking bum and went reverse treasure hunting. I hid the treasure.
Now for the next 5 weeks all the locals will be forced to read my bad bad poetry trying to decipher clues to the treasure. I wonder how many other poets there are out there who have been published consecutively 10 times a year for over 10 years.
By the end of 4 weeks as the clues begin to make sense, hundreds of people will be out searching for the treasure.
There's something about sending hundreds of people searching all over town trying to decipher bad poetry that I truly relish.

The treasure is an acrylic medallion with Sammy the Snook on it. He's a caricature fish. I started the contest several years ago for a charity seafood festival. Last year the City adopted him as the officail city mascot and now the hunt is sponsored by them. The medallion if you find it is worth $1500 cash and assorted t other prizes.
The interesting part is over the years, the treasure hunting competition has gotten serious. People actually wait up till midnight when the e version of the paper comes out and are out there in the middle of the night with flashlights.
It's become a fun event and it gets harder to stump them every year. The prize has been found 9 out of 10 years. Last year it was found 2 hours before I would have picked it up. There's were hundreds of people out walking around looking for it when it was found.

Hey, guys - I have a favor. I've posted a new thread on the North Texas site to welcome home from Iraq a member who has been over there for a year (young guy), and since our posting base is pretty small in the North Texas site, I was wondering if some of you could go over there and just say welcome home to him, too, so when he visits the site again (probably within the next day or 2 he'll be back in contact), he'll have a really big show of support.
