You little ol' street squirrel, you! I've never done a donut/burnout but I think it involves locking the steering wheel hard in one direction, light brake pressure (so as not to lock the rear wheels too much) and heavy on the throttle. I'm not really sure how you'd best do that in a standard transmission because I'm pretty sure you don't want to keep the car in first to do that, but you probably aren't going to be shifting during a donut, and I'm not sure if you can get one started in 2nd. Maybe driving in a straight line in 2nd and then turning hard left and light left-foot braking would get it going - just make sure there aren't any poles or curbs around when you try it!!! I probably won't be trying it in my car -- maybe in a rental

Granny, don't do burnouts/donuts in your S. That stuff is pretty abusive to the entire drivetrain, and our little, lightweight car isn't up to it.

I've been tempted a few times, but it's a hard and fast rule for me.

Some folks out there do it, granted, but most of them end up replacing drivetrain components because of the damage they do. Unless you're willing to go that route, don't do it.

Thanks for putting up with my 20 questions this morning. I'm sure the guys were happy to get a break from explaining things to 'ol granny. You're too tough, kiddo. (that's a good thing)

It was this thread or the weekend thread but this one came up first. Tomorrow morning, (well it is Friday morning already back east), I'm going with my husband, Andy, to Bishop, California. On Saturday, Andy, John, Leonard, Frank, and Gary are going to ride their dual-sport motorcycles to some tiny town in Nevada, and back. I'm taking my motorcycle too so I can check out Bishop with my camera. I will be going with some other friends, Debbie and Kevin, up to Mammoth Mountain and Devils Post Pile for Saturday. We'll all be staying in two motorhomes in a campground. Deb and Kevin in theirs, and me and the other 5 guys in ours. (Probably need a mask.) This is the first time I've been invited to go along, as it's always been a guys weekend. I wish I was going in my S but it should be fun anyway. I hope to take some pretty photos of our California fall colors. They won't be anything like back east but they'll do for Cali. Talk to ya all on Monday.

Any news on that 6.6 earthquake in the Phillipines? Just got a new flash and can't get to a TV or radio here. Do earthquakes and volcanos intrigue anybody here?

^That sort of thing does interest me, as does the weather (a coupl eof co-workers have nicknamed me AccuTom ). I've been following the Mt. St. Helens story, and the bigger story about the possibility that some of the other PacNW volcanoes could be at risk also.

I hadn't heard about the Phillipines quake, I'll have to see what Google News and the online wire services turn up.
