With odds of winning of 290 million I'm not surprised.

Either that, or I'll spend the money on electronic gadgets and salaries for people who can keep up with modern technology and explain how it all works to me.
What, nothing to charity greedy. I could help a lot of legitimate unfortunate people who could use some help.

You bet. I can live with 33 million headaches, but not 758 million! Sadly, its all driven by greed, who wants to win $1M if you can win $1B.

We were chatting about it at golf.
A lot of folks would not be able to spend it.
T-bills are running a little over 1%.
so if you dumped it all into treasury notes you'd still be generating close to 10 million a year and never touching the principle.
But you would have friends, lots of 'em.
that annoying kid from the first grade would suddenly reappear.

I would build a nice but not too large new house with a large but not too nice garage, buy a few cars, take care of the family, invest maybe 10 million in something where I could live comfortably off the interest and do some traveling, and put the rest into a foundation endowment for one cause that I believe in. I have no idea which one but I would like to think that focusing that much money might actually make a difference. Seems like it takes a lot of dough to effect change or research a cure or positively impact a very large population..

I'd be a fan of capping the amount at say $100M (still more than any one person and their connected people need), but pull multiple sets of numbers for each drawing.

Turns out the man who died last year was her ex-husband. She had a partner of 15 years, but they broke up last Aug so he gets none of the money.

A year late and a few dollars short. I've heard that saying before.

I for one always hope that who ever wins a lottery falls into one of the following categories:
  • It changes their life for the better.
  • They do some good with a part of their winnings by donating it to a cause that they believe in.
I.E. Back in the 90's my Sister-in-Law, who was a nurse practitioner at the Medical College of Virginia, had a patient that was in his 60's, and had estranged him self from his entire family and live his life like a hermit. He drank a case of Budweiser a day. He won $8 Million in the VA lottery. But, it did NOT change a single thing in his life. He did not even upgrade to Michelob. What a waste IMHO.

I agree. If I ever won I would try to help those help themselves! If they need a house, car, education, etc. Medical is not a real option IMO.
