Ok, so I just crawled under and removed that bracket for close inspection. Its perfect. While under there, I poked around, looking for something loose that could mimick the sound.

I discovered the axles both feel a little loose, and if I twist them back and forth on their play, banging the play one side to the other, it kinda makes the sound. I don't know how play the axles should have, but I'm guessing its 'none'.

So maybe I have bad axles? Car has 115k miles. Looks like original axles. I know there is some driveline snatch I can feel at low speeds if I'm rough with throttle on/off. Is there a definitive bad axle test?

Car has never been lowered. Stock. Ap2. Axle nut retorque done 2 years ago. No clicking now or ever.

Don't be swayed by play in the axles, that is very likely a non issue.

Good. I know they're not cheap...

Are the trans mounts oil filled like motor mounts are? One has a brown film like you see on blown diff and motor mounts.

update on this post, noise still occurs on idle and revving to 3000 RPMS. Must not be a driving issue

have you recently changed brake calipers? i had a similar noise and it ended up being one of the brake caliper bolts came out. mine would hapeen when driving over a bump not a specific rpm, but check it still cause that can be bad if you dont

I have AP front calipers and RX-8 rear calipers so I doubt that is the cause of this noise.
