Yet another DIY valve cover rehab
Yooo all.
I spent a few hours rehabbing an extra cam or valve cover before (and during) my valve adjustment and inspection yesterday.
I didnt strip the paint like other members have done, I just sanded the entire cover with 150 fine sand paper paying closer attention to spots that were chipped away.
I then wiped the entire outside with lacquer thinner on a soft cloth to remove any grime, grease and dust.
Then I taped off all holes on the top using green painters tape and an exacto knife. I got pretty good at cutting tape at the end there.
I hit it with a few light coats of the VHT primer using the instructions on the can.
After that dried, I applied many even semi-thin coats of the VHT black wrinkle paint to the cover, waiting the 5 minutes in between, gradually filling in everything and applying it a tad thicker as I got the hang of it. Make sure to follow the instruction for the application method.
Here it is wet:
I didnt bake, no need. Just hit it with a heat gun and utilize a nice sunny day to get it to wrinkle up. You can see it change, but dont cook it too long with the gun, just even distribution of heat.
The results speak for themselves!

That looks fantastic, nice work. I would dread the taping job though, lol.
