Default Yellow Box Settings

Am installing the yellow box tommorrow and going over the instructions, I have doubts on the 8.25% ratio I've seen posted here before. From a chart posted here a while back comparing mph with both 4.10 and 4.44 final gear at different gears(1-6) at 9200 rpms), the S has a negative ratio. I belive a -7.66%. If the ratio formula is Ratio = Indicated / Actual and the speedo reads 109.6mph with 4.44 gear and 118.7mph with 4.10 gear, then the ratio is 0.923 or negative 7.66%. So the switches should be lined up 1001 111. Am I right or am I missing something?

Please help.

0010 1000 = ratio 1.1000 = %10.00

These are the settings Rick and I use. Seem to be just right. Better than stock settings for accuracy I think.

Regards,
J-

How did you get to that 1.10 ratio?

The settings are not made on a theoretical basis, but using mile markers on the highway, which are very accurate, having been laid out by surveyors. The instructions that come with the Yellow Box explain how to do this.

Basically you stop at a mileage marker, set the trip odometer to zero, then continue driving to the nearest mile marker where the tenth of a mile reading on the odometer hits zero just as you reach the marker. Subtract the actual mileage driven (as represented by the mile markers) from the mileage indicated on the odometer, then divide the result by the mileage driven. That will give you the percentage error. In my case, I drove 10 miles (as indicated on the roadside mile markers, but my odometer read 11.0 miles). (10 minus 11)/10 = -.1, or a correction of minus 10 percent (the odometer was 10 percent optimistic).

Alfredo, you have my PM so I won't go into the calculations too much here. Your calculations are slightly flawed. I much prefer to use the increase in gear ratio to do the calculation, but let's use your numbers:
118.7 mph - 109.6 mph = 9.1
9.1/109.6 = 0.083 (or 8.3%)
(You're dividing by the wrong number.)
As I had indicated to you in the PM, our speedo is already out by 2%, so the 10% that Rick and ReedZ uses is almost right on with real world speed.

Have yourself paced by a police car with the -10% correction and I'll bet you'll be too close to see any variance.
