With any modification, there is an element of risk. Even a simple CAI intake can result in a CEL and horror stories. Don't let these sorts of things deter you from doing something that will make your car perform better for you. Granted, this mod is on a higher level of technical difficulty and an experienced and knowledgeable mechanic has always been an absolute must. I have always said "gears" is one of the more big bang for the buck mods you can do for your car BUT, if done wrong, it can turn out to be your biggest nightmare.
Like the guy in the Indiana Jones movie with the Holy Grail said ........................ "CHOOSE WISELY"!

I was one of the original shipments of gears and have waited patiently to put them in due to seeing what happens or problems with them and to see if I should get a new LSD or just use my stock one with comptech diff housing. I try to not let the whining stories or anything discourage me. I just can't afford for anything to go wrong at this point which is why I'm still in wait. I have a totally great mechanic for things of this nature that I'm not skilled enough to do so that's not a worry for me so much as just bad luck.

Sub- don't quit the gears just because of this box. I'm just slow. Now that I've done it, I could do it in about about 15 minutes. At a track or the Dragon, these puppies make a big difference.

Not just the yellow box.....I just can't afford to break another diff or have something go wrong. I'm just wondering if there is anything to really worry about like the whine. I've read up a lot on some people have it, some don't, but never heard why or if it is problematic or etc. I really want the gears in, I just gotta be 100% sure nothing is gonna go wrong.

I think most people have the whine. My gears now have several thousand miles and a few track days on them. So far I have no reason to believe that there will be any problems.

Still no CEL after 100 miles. I leave in a couple of hours on a 2.5 hrs drive. I'll be gone all weekend, but will report back success/failure. Again, thank you, xviper and Strike!

Subby- you should know by now there is nothing ever guaranteed! Just take measures to reduce the likelihood of failure.

If you wait for 100%, you will never do this mod. The best you can hope for is to maximize the odds. 75%? 80%? 95%? It's all in your minds perception of when that will be.

Well 100% as sure as sure can get..... + or - 5%

Hopefully by the end of summer I can get them in and report in how mine are going. Nothing helps out more than people willing to share their experience and knowledge. Thanks.
