One solution to a hard to read dipstick (and I agree, it is) is to drill three small holes, one at the lower mark, one in the middle and one at the higher mark. Because of surface tension, you'll be able to see the oil across the hole. Just be sure to make small holes so the dipstick won't crack; about 1/16" should be fine.

Here some stuff I picked up which confirms what y'all been saying:

After running a few checks today, I'm glad to report it looks like it was all a false alarm (driver error, so to speak).
Probably due to two things: (1) the oil was especially clean with only 211 miles on it, and (2) I don't normally check the oil when it's still that warm; I typically check it when I prepare to go somewhere, so the car has sat over night.
When the oil's warm plus super clean the dip stick doesn't appear to be picking up hardly anything. But, using the method suggested by meat, it reads full on the paper towel. I can't see it with the naked eye.
After 10 minutes I checked again, and I could see oil registering in the x's if I looked close under good lighting. After 25 minutes had elapsed, it was slightly easier to see. No doubt, as the oil turns darker it will get even easier -- it did before.
Thanks all.
