This HAS to be electrical. With all of these problems at once...do you have a CEL?

Why? Also, won't the key need to be reprogrammed?

I read post everywhere with these swaps. It never hurt me in the past and I randomly started exp issues. I have two guesses, vtec solonoid is bad (if that even goes bad) OR a serious ground issue which prevents vtec from engaging and a/c from working fulltime.

Sounds like a grounding issue then. When I replaced the engine in my S it wouldnt start, but when I plugged a scanner into it, it started up perfectly. I realized that the scanner has it's own ground and gives the ECU a ground to start. So it sounds like you have a bad ground somewhere. The first one I would check is the main ECU one, which is the G101 ground on the back of the head. It's a huge PITA to get to, but it is possible. Make sure that is tight.

Did you mess with the neg in an effort to troubleshoot the problem or did the problem occur after working on the battery?

thanks suzuka. That ground behind the block is a PITA.

Utah- to be honest, it happened AFTER I messed with the negative cable on the battery. Issue with battery was it somehow corroded on a certain bend, so I snipped it and and reattached the wire to the connector

You can try cleaning the terminals to the battery as well, if they aren't getting a good connection.
