You are seeing something I am not, because of your pics.

If you set set the crank properly, and take a straight pic, I can tell you for certain if you need to reset the cams.

There are slight variations between cars...very slight...if its a whole tooth off I can see it clear as day.

Basically it's 1/2 a tooth off. Still runs, but crappy. I'm going to adjust it. So do I take the tensioner and valvetrain off to get the chain off?

my exhaust cam was off one tooth and the car ran "fine" I didnt suspect it until i put the car on the dyno and it was missing a ton of torque.

you dont need to touch the chain and dont worry about the marks on the Idler gear

set cylinder 1 to TDC and make sure the marks on the cam gears are facing each other and line up with the split under the cam cap.

This is what mine looked like when i got my car.. again it seemed to run fine. This was with cylinder 1 at TDC

Digging up an old post here. But I've been getting TDC error codes lately. Car seems to run fine when it's not in limp mode. It seems to go into limp mode when idling, I reset the code I can go on track for 30-40 min and it's perfect fine. Even when I come in let it idle for a bit shut it off and it's fine.

Then if I'm lucky I can go out again, if I'm unlucky just before I head into the pits to go out, I get a TDC code (it's the A sensor driver's side, not sure if that is intake or exhaust) and then goes into limp mode.

Car seems to run perfectly fine.... I tried cleaning the sensor and wires, I had it out a few months ago for a clutch change but it worked great for a full track day before I had this problem at the next track day.

I'm going to check my spark plugs, is that even possibly a cause? It's intermittent, I ran a full day at auto-x and didn't have the issue.

NOTE: I have a constant CEL for heater circuit on O2 sensor bank 1. I tried replacing that sensor with no luck, I tested all the wires etc etc. Seems like my ECU may have a bad path on it for the front O2 sensor -- my AFR is high at idle 13 ish. I'm trying to source a new ECU to see if that solves the problem. But I've been told by a mechanic that would have nothing to do with my TDC issue, but I still wonder if it could possibly be related. Never had any issues until this O2 sensor problem, then this occured.

Quick update, I got a new ECU which cleared my CEL for the O2 sensor, still not sure on the TDC code as I haven't driven the car yet.

I have the exact same problem with my tdc marks. Its a lil bit on the left. Was your chain on the right teeth?

Don’t mean to thread jack. Here is a k20a2 for reference. Looks almost like the f20. It seems to be a tooth off but yet the car runs perfectly fine. I’m trying to decide if I should replace the chain or not.
