whats the difference between these and the regular side vents.....
cant i just use the regular side vents and just use some stuff from a hardware store to hold it up?

grille-tech says u need the original grill to put it on...

If I'm not mistaken, if you put on the "airflow" system on the car, you have two choices:
1. You cut out the fake airduct.
2. You leave the fake airduct as is and put on the CM duct grill so it matches your center grill screen.
If all you want to do is open the fake airducts up to let air in, you could just as easily drill them full of holes (carefully and in a nice pattern, of course).
The Grille Tech grill attaches to the stock grill (or perhaps needs it for support). The CM grill attaches to the walls of the grill opening.

Mike, the CM side grills will clean up that "bare naked" hole you've got very nicely. If you scroll down the page here:

You will see that CM supplies all the hardware that you'll need to do the installation if you choose the kit with the brackets. Otherwise, you can fabricate your own by looking at the picture.
Even the kit without the brackets will come with double sided tape to hold the grills on.

The side grills come two different ways.
The 3-piece kit has side grills that are solid, and stuck on with double sided tape - not optimal.
They also have available so that the side grills are open like the pattern of the center grill. These are attached with L-brackets and bolts, in existing holes.
I am quite pleased with my set. No overheating issues for city and highway driving. I would suggest removing the center grill for a track day, but otherwise they are a great addition.
* darn - XViper types too fast!
