Default Wont start, possible immobilizer? ODB not connecting

Hi Everyone,

Would anyone here be able to help me troubleshoot, key fob is working, new battery installed as I hadn't driven the car for month, we had a frost, and the battery seemed fried, installed battery, put key in, turned ignition, no "key" light on dashboard, nothing, car will crank but not fire up.

Is it possible its the immobiliser not recognising the key? Maybe if that was the case it wouldn't crank? I purchased a Topdon ODB-II Bluetooth reader and it won't connect, so I wondered if its possible the issue is connected to the immobiliser? I am a bit lost.

I read its possible a fuel filter / pump pressure issue, have no clue how to test that, obviously its why I bought the OBD tester.

Would be very grateful for some help, not driven the S2000 for a couple of months now, no Honda garages in a 100km radius to me

Thanks in advance

Tobes

When you turn the key on, the green key light should come on for two seconds.

If the green key light is flashing, it means it can not read or recognize the key.

I have had a customer disconnect both battery cables, touch them together for 30 seconds, then reconnect. It cured the problem.

Please note if you do this, you only touch the DISCONNECTED cable ends together. You will never allow the battery terminals themselves to touch (by bridging with metal)

If immobilizer is not working it will still crank.
But if you stick your head down in to the boot where the spare wheel goes you should be able to hear the fuel pump prime when ignition is cycled on.
If not then it might be immobilizer problem, do you get the green flashing key?

Hey Thanks Bill,

Im getting no key light at all on the dashboard, not even a flash, shame the ODB is not working, let me try your suggestion in a bit, Im about to go into a meeting so will have to test this later this evening, I know its also possible to reset the immobiliser with some turning of the key, it's possible Ive done something to mess it up by accident

No clue how to troubleshoot it!

I will report back later.

Many Thanks

Tobes

Hey thanks Flanders, no thats the thing, no key light flashes at all, which is why I started to think thats the issue, is there any way to trouble shoot or test? I guess if the light does not flash, we know its an issue.

I did take my second key last night and tried with no luck also, I just read its possible if the key fob battery is weak it could also be an issue, but its opening and closing the doors ok, so battery seems ok, maybe I should try a new battery in the fob anyway.

Thanks for any tips, I'll try and Bill said it a bit.

Check every fuse in the car.

I've heard ppl use a 10-ohm, 5-watt resistor across the disconnected battery cables --- to drain the stored electricity in the ECU and other "brains" in the car. Leave the resistor connected for 15 minutes to be sure all stored electricity is gone.

Less chance of ECU damage. I suppose the S2000 may have an older, less sensitive ECU.

So sadly, I've had no luck so far, checked the fuse for the immobiliser, its fine, I did what Bill suggested and left the two terminals touching for about 5 minutes, replugged the battery, and sadly unlocked the car with the fob, place the key in the ignition, turned it, and sadly still no "Key" light switched on or flashed on the dashboard, so unless there is an issue with the light on the dash, which seems unlikely, the issue must be the immobiliser, is there any documentation for troubleshooting the immobiliser, what a pain in the neck.

Thanks everyone for all the advice.

Tobes

don't check the fuse you THINK is the issue. check them ALL in both locations.
