The symptoms you describe suggest that your clutch is not fully releasing, a typical cause for difficulty in getting into first and reverse. This problem is typically solved by bleeding the clutch fluid, but since your car is now about 4 years old it's a good idea to change out the fluid. In general, one should change your brake and clutch fluid every 2-3 years independent of mileage since the fluid is hygroscopic. That means it absorbs water over time making it less effective, particularly the brake fluid.
There is a link to these maintenance procedures in the FAQ. Note that it is particularly challenging to effectively purge all of the air out of the clutch system, so be persistent.
