Won't shift

so if I try to shift into first with out using the clutch the tranny wouldn't let me into first but if I hold the shifter forward the car would creep

Ok. So, the car is NOT in 1st gear. But, you are starting to engage the synchros? Starts to creep, but no crunching noise?

I'm not sure if this is normal or not. I've never purposely tried to put the car into 1st without using the clutch. At least, not partial use of clutch at a dead stop. It's almost as if the clutch is partially engaged, even with your foot off the pedal. You need to get under the car and check the throw-out lever movement, with respects to the clutch pedal. And see if the you have play, at the throw-out lever, when the clutch pedal is not engaged.

The simple friction of the syncro will start the forward motion of the car. It is essentially using the synro as a friction clutch.
It is also the best way to fry a syncro in 30 seconds if you continue to do so.
A syncro is a shaft brake, slowing a 18lb shaft. Using it to move 2800lbs puts xx times the amount of wear. Just divide 2800x18.

Symptoms sound to me like an exedy or other crap clutch that is about to take a dump. You broke a spring, the typical failure mode, and its loose around in there. Sometimes the spring jams things up and clutch won't disengage, then spring moves around and clutch seems to work again, but shiftimg is still not great. You won't have any slipping, the disk isn't worn out. Its jist mechanically broken.
Someone replaced your clutch in the past, and replaced with junk.
If I'm right, it will only get worse. Soon. You will want to repace with Honda parts, not exedy. Not exedy so called oem.
You will need someone to replace it that knows how to do an S clutch. They need to lube the splines, need use the correct grease. NO EXCEPTIONS. Your local mechanic that has done many clutches but not an S will say I got this. He don't got this. Get someone that knows this car.
