Is it wise to upgrade valve springs and retainers?
#41
I bought the car with 76K, and I've never missed a shift. But when I opened it up, it had 7 of the 8 intake retainers cracked at different stages of disintegration. Why I did it? Because someone on these forums suggested it as part of preventative maintenance.
Do I regret it? Heck no, since the otherwise the engine would've grenaded.

Honda RR, Try to get a few shop quotes. Its just good insurance for yourself. I did it in a few hours with the help of a Honda Dealer tech. He brought the tools, I brought the parts and some cash and he taught me how to do some cool stuff with his tools along the way. Worked out pretty good, actually. I am now confident enough to do a valve adjustment, etc.
AP2 retainers, intake side for sure if you drive aggressively at all!

Look at the crank pulley, while the owner pushes the clutch in and out with the car running..make sure you cant see it move.....i bought a car...3 weeks later car starts stalling without any warnings or symptoms of crankwalk....it indeed was...got a used short block and getting ready to rebuild....my .02
