Well, here's a confirming testimonial.
Before I installed my MY04 transmission I had a carrier (diff assembly) with a 4.44 installed that I got out of the front carrier of a Mazda B2600 4x4. It was pristine despite it's age.
I used it for the track and enjoyed it a lot. It was especially impactful when I had my supercharger and did my first water injection testing at Blackhawk Farms raceway. The torque that I was able to lay down out of the corners was nothing short of fantastic with the 4.44 and water injection.
However, I blew them up in less than 50 laps.
I now have the MY04 transmission and it's just as effective as the 4.44 but I get the top end of the 5th and 6th gears that I'd lose with a 4.44 alone. I'm much happier with the MY04 transmission than the 4.44 gears in comparison.
I'll soon have a track diff done with a 4.3 in it to swap in for track days at nearly everywhere except Road America. I'll need 5th gear there at the stock ratio for the three big straights.
