Will an aftermarket intake void warranty?
I have had the RM Racing intake with cold air option on my car for almost a year now without any problems. I know that it is completely unrelated, but my air conditioning just stopped working all the sudden. Well actually I haven't had to use it until just recently since the weather has warmed back up. So I need to take it in to get worked on but I'm wondering if I am going to have to put the stock airbox back in. If they see that I've played around with the internals by putting the RM intake on will they try to void my warranty?
Again, I know the intake has nothing to do with the A/C, but It sometimes seems like dealerships are just looking for excuses not to do warrantry work.
Any advice would be helpful because I hate to spend the time to reinstall the stock airbox if any of you know for a fact that it shouldn't cause an issue.

i don't know if your local dealership is "mod friendly" or not.
that's one of the main reasons why i opted for the Spoon/IDi style CF CAI duct - it can be removed in less time than you can say "warranty". most likely your dealership wouldn't care one way or another, just IMHO.

There's a long reply involved here, but the short and skinny of it is....federal law prohibits the voiding of a warranty just because after-market parts were added. They have to prove that the extra parts were what caused a failure. Besides, they would be idiots to try and argue an A/C case for a CAI install.

Agree with Mingster above; if not too much hassle I would put the stock intake back on before going to the dealer.
I had a turbo Eagle Talon (great car!) with after-market piping to the intercooler, intake, etc. Went in for a recall repair under warranty, and the service manager gave me a 10 minute lecture on voiding warranties, etc. Real asshole, but upshot was my car was put on this dealers radar screen, not good if serious engine damage occurred at some later date. Anyway, sold the car a few months later (partly because of warranty issues), subsequently heard the engine blew up like a hand grenade about a year later! (265 hp from a 2.0 liter straight four)

I went ahead and put the stock airbox back on. It wasn't too difficult. And actually, the car sounds a little less tinny with it on, as opposed to the RM intake. That intake was really loud and cool sounding at WOT, but it also echoed a lot of unwanted noises at lower rpm's. I'll stick with the stock box now. Maybe just get a different filter.
Now I've just got to take it in to get the A/C fixed.
