Why the smoke?

Why the smoke?
So this past weekend my drain plug flew out of my oil pan while in motion...yes it sucks and I had to drive it for like 1 1/2 miles until I could park it. Well this morning I left out for work with the engine half way warm and every time I hit the gas there was a large cloud of smoke from the exhaust....So I pulled in after I noticed this and checked the oil level which was good for a warm engine, also I have no leaks. My question is what else could go wrong to make the car smoke before being fully warm????

my oil light did come on, only because there was no oil left. that wasnt until i made it to the parking lot though. my temp gauge was still good and the plug came out while i was doing about 50mph. the smoke is blue in color which drew me away from the idea of a blown headgasket but i know obviously something isnt right

I'll take a not so wild guess that a bearing, sleeve, or guide that depends on oil pressure for lubrication got cooked. Now, it's either frying oil or letting oil through into the cylinders.
You have a very small window where you can run an engine without oil pressure. A distance of 1.5 miles sounds like too much to me.

While I don't have any personal experience to back this up, I would say you would only have a few seconds to shut things down rather than a few minutes...
