Maybe it is a sign that both the NSX and s2000 are going to end production soon, in that Honda is spending the research money on newer engines for a possible new model
The NSX yes by what 2005 is when the HSC is supposed to be....the S2000....2008 at the earliest.....

... if honda pushed rsx's off the showroom floor with 220fwhp, i guarantee you it would have fewer sales, and not more. 220fwhp is too damn fast for a lot of people, but ~170fwhp isn't...
I don't know... Marketing commercials would sound alot better with 220whp vs 170whp

could it also be a software thing? maybe the s2000 and nsx's computers arn't able to adjust to the i-vtec. it might just be easier for honda to produce these cars with vtec. but you have to look at it this way, Honda still sells every nsx and s2000 despite the vtec program.

well, the K20A was built on the R&D of the F20C. Since it's newer, it got the i-vtec system, which obviously wasn't ready in 1999. It doesn't make much sense for Honda to apply the VTC to the F20/F22...it will require big changes to the head (the software could largely be ported from the K20A).

the crank regrind was the move they took. that took minimal effort and was deemed the cheapest solution to meet the goal. The F20 is ultimately the best for PEAK tuning, but the VTC in the K20 can net a higher "area under the curve".

I would love it if a K20A2 swap were avalilable on the S2000. Perhaps a bell housing will be developed and this will be possible.

cause honda is stupid and gave the better engine to the integra/rsx

i think the new s2k should b a 2.2L i-vtec

the new k-series has so much potential its not even funny!!!! ive seen minor bolts ons such as i/h/e w/ honda reflash make 220whp....that is not fair man!!!!

for example...here what a lil tunning can get u out of a k20a2(USDM RSX Motor) can do...i/h/e, hondata, ported intake mani.... this motor i feel shits on the F20C ...imagine this motor in a lil civic hatch...all u will hear is zoom!!! to bad it doesnt look at nice as the s2k ..the only thing that makes me feel better...s2k = expensive pimp ride
Finally someone who realizes the potential of the K-Series! They are amazing.

Hmmm... Anyone know if the 2.4L i-Vtec motor in the TSX will have the same tuneability as the K20a ? Hondata is apparently working on the ECU right now.

although i dont agree with this statment

"if honda pushed rsx's off the showroom floor with 220fwhp, i guarantee you it would have fewer sales, and not more. 220fwhp is too damn fast for a lot of people, but ~170fwhp isn't. "

what the hell do u call the DC5 Type R which has 220hp...if that car was over here it would sell like hot cakes!!!! but then again it would be limited production vehicle like the Type R's now...(TOO BAD THEY ALL GET STOLEN )
read my post again, you missed the point. you say the dc5 type R has 220hp. read that again. it's the TYPE R. limited production model whose demographic is the hardcore enthusiast. the TYPE S is still a luxury-based top-end model.

i add to my previous statement... if honda made all the top-end rsx's type R's instead of type S', with the extra power and more performance-oriented ride that the model type entails, honda would sell far fewer top end rsx's than they sell now.

not everyone wants to drive a car as performance-oriented as a dc5 type R. most drivers want to be pampered on the road; hence, the type S. most people would be turned off by a type R. don't look at it from the viewpoint of what most ENTHUSIASTS would like to drive. i'm sure a great overwhelming majority, if not all, of the enthusiasts on this board would take the type R over the type S. after all, if you're not an enthusiast, what the hell are you doing on this board in the first place?

yes, 260hp would make a better commercial than 200hp... to the enthusiast. to the average customer, that's 60 more hp than he knows what to do with and a couple more grand than he wants to spend. and to make money, honda and other car companies must sell to the average customer and hope to keep the enthusiasts interested.

i drive a stang right now and i've been dreaming of the s2k everyday... ask most mustang drivers (ALL DRIVERS INCLUSIVE, not just the enthusiasts) if they would take a mustang gt or a new cobra. a great percentage would test drive both and walk away with the gt, or maybe the cobra at first and then realize that it's way too much car for them. hell, i was looking at a used vette at one of the dealers around here, and some guy drove in an almost brand-spanking new maroon 03 cobra and traded it in for a freakin pontiac grand prix gtp. i caught up to the guy before he left the lot and i asked him why he let go of that cobra... he said "it was too harsh, the whine from the supercharger got annoying, and i was peeling out at almost every light... too much power for me". point taken?

I was just having a bit of a go at the never ending topic of "end of production"- wasn't trying to be serious.

without wanting to worry anyone, we've been getting reports in the uk that the HSC has been dropped and honda have decided to make more of a GT type car than a supercar.
