Why Does My Vtec Engage At 6300?

you tach probably won't be off..but maybe your eyes are...
unless you are holding the rpms steady...and building very slowly from 5.8 to 6.3, it is hard to be specific when something happens. If you are driving through the low gears it happens too fast to be sure what rpm VTEC engaged...IMO.

I know it is variable for me. When I'm at WOT it's on at like 5800 and stays on when I shift gears. When I'm not taking off as fast it will wait till later, sometimes as high as 6500. It's adaptive to your driving style it seems.

Do you live at a high altitude?
And the oil level is fine, I check regularly.

However, when I did a road-trip out to California, VTEC engaged for me around 6300rpm when I was at higher altitudes - 5000, 7000 feet or so.
However, I don't know if that's normal for ALL S2000's at that altitude - you'd best ask other owners in your area.
