That was what I was thinking. Aftermarket OEM replacement that is heavier than stock. I didnt want to be the first to suggest it, cause I was not sure if any company like that made S2000 flywheels.

As far as I know, it came from a low mileage 2002 AP1 and was the original flywheel. I contacted the original owner to see what he says.

Sounds like the OP got an aftermarket flywheel that's compatible with the F20C, but not the actual Honda part.
Not the case.

I've been watching this thread as I am the one who sold the flywheel to the OP.

It came out of my 2002 AP1 when I replaced my clutch and flywheel at around 30,000 miles. I bought my car with 18,000 miles on it and it was completely untouched modification wise.

Here is my build thread and the clutch install is on page 4 although I didn't take many pics of the actual install...

18K miles is plenty of time for the original owner to have had a clutch/flywheel job. If it wasn't done at a dealer then it's likely they used a non-Honda part.

Regardless, no one's saying it's a bad part; in fact it's probably more durable than the OE unit (there's a reason Honda increased the weight for the F22). We're just saying if it's really 17lbs then it isn't Honda part # 22100-PCX-005.

Still a mystery, but at least 300sx seems like a great guy and gave me a great price and it's lighter than my AP2 flywheel (or so it should be!). Just for curiosities sake, does anyone in the Tampa Bay area have an AP1 flywheel that we can compare?

On an ap2 flywheel, the low part of the teeth come right up against the cast iron part of the flywheel.
On my F20 flywheel the starter ring is flush with the cast iron inner part when looking at the back of the FW, not like in the first picture hybridspl posted (IMG_1197) where there is a step.
On my F20 flywheel the step is on the other side, where the disk and PP mounts.

This is a Comptech FW.
Starter ring is also flush with the back.

This is the OEM F20 flywheel I measured.

I agree that anything is possible but knowing the car, the condition of the car and most of the history of the car I would say that is VERY unlikely. That and working on the car myself there were no signs (that I could see) of the tranny ever being out of the car.

What year is this out of, 00-01?

Longshot but I wonder if there was a production change from 01 to 02, there was other things changed between those years (i.e. oil squirters, interior bits, etc...)...

Hmm... when you have 2 engines (one in parts and one in the car) and a Comptech FW... you have 2 OEM flywheels

On top is the oldest MY'00 flywheel.
Below is a MY'05 flywheel.
All F20C2 engines.

There are some subtle differences between the 2.
They do have the same weight.
The most clear difference is that the oldest FW has an angle at the starter ring teeth.

Maybe someone should post a clear picture of a F22 flywheel.

I guess I'm with twohoos:

Hmm...
I'm assuming since you have an '05 with a F20c you aren't in the US so you are exempt from this convo

I want to see someone weigh a 02-03 US flywheel!
