Default Why does my AP1 flywheel weigh 17 lbs?

I have searched relentlessly, and everyone seems to think that the AP1 flywheel weighs 14 lbs. However, the flywheel I received today that is allegedly from an AP1, weighs 17.1 lbs according to two different scales. Can anyone verify that this is indeed an AP1 flywheel for me? I am not really in the mood to find out that it is wrong, when my car is all dissected and has its guts all over my garage floor.

Nothing happened to my flywheel, I have an AP2 and wanted to swap to the lighter AP1 flywheel. I just want to make sure this is correct, since the weight seems to differ from popular belief.

I just weighed my AP2 flywheel on a bathroom scale. I am 21.0lbs heavier when I hold it.

Perhaps your scale is not calibrated. Looks just like my AP1 flywheel

It's ap1.

On an ap2 flywheel, the low part of the teeth come right up against the cast iron part of the flywheel.

From those photos, looks like about 3lbs of rust? j/k

Actually it would be great if someone else weighed their AP1 flywheel. The OP's absolutely right: the 14lb number has been around forever, but I honestly don't recall anyone ever having actually measured the OE part!

Anybody have one handy?

^ For some reason, the pics make it look a lot worse than it is. Anyway, I was hoping for someone to verify the weight too, as I had two different scales confirm the 17.1 lbs, which is obviously different than the number seemingly provided by one guy years ago. Maybe he had the sun in his eyes when he was reading the scale and no one else really gave a crap how much the stock one weighed until now.

OEM F20C2 flywheel = 6,4 kg / 14,08 lbs.
That's including the pilot bearing.

IIRC the Comptech = 5 kg / 11 lbs.
I had it written down somewhere.....
