Who makes good gams and how much
#7
I am no means an expert, but I did sleep in a Holiday Inn Express last night.
Spoon is the only company that I know of that has cams. BUT you just don't get cams....you buy the valves, retainers and springs along with the cams. In addition, you usually have to tune the A/F mixture, which means getting the Spoon ECU or some other brand corresponding to the cams you buy. This rings out all of the performance from the cams (higher redline, different fuel curves, etc). All of this is not cheap. But the again NA is NA and there is alot to be said for an all motor beast.
The other alternative is to get a VTEC A/F controller. I personally do not like the controller. I had one on my VTEC Del Sol and it crapped out on me and caused many check engine lights until I finally removed it. It worked for a year then died. Moral of the story: $300.00 down the drain. Plus lots of dyno tuning is necessary to get it right.
Now if you want to go the forced induction route: DON'T get cams. Unless you want to buy them and then sell them to me cheap!!! J/K. Aftermarket cams have too much overlap for forced induction, which is not good for the engine. Usually, ITR or CTR cams are great for forced induction (Integras and Civics), but of course Honda does not make an S2000 Type R, so that idea is out! Damn I wish they made one!!! I would be first in line!!
Hope that helps.
