Im not so much worried/bothered by the sound if I can rule out the rear-end as being a possibility, thats what I was trying to get at.

I see. Like I said, if it's bad, it'll get louder and louder. You can't rule out anything on the basis of an internet diagnosis.

I have this EXACT SAME PROBLEM, it just started, this is an old thread but didnt look concluded and since I am FREAKIGN OUT about this i thought id revive it, ITS DRIVING ME crazy, did you ever find a fix for it or just live with it

think i have the same noise. anyone have a solution? Im getting the tranny fluid changed next week hopefully thats a fix.

well I have heard it in other ones when I paid attention. There seems some normal faint whining/whistling, and one that can be cured. Do a search on "shifter ringing" or something like that, you have to re-lube it, and it made mine shift a little better too. Not too hard to do, took me about 10-15 min.

my whine turned out to be my diff, but....... the whine could be almost anything... tranny, shifter ring etc. I would get it checked out, my whole diff had to be replaced

well the diff will generally whine louder as speed increases or load increases right?
