Whirring noise coming from under car, 2001 s2000
Hey everyone I'm new here. I just purchased a Spa Yellow ap1 last week and so far it seems great besides for one little problem.
It makes a whirring noise, almost like wind that goes with the rotation of the tires, it will do it in every gear and neutral while rolling. I've narrowed it down and I know it isn't tire noise, wheel bearings, and engine noise. I just changed the trans fluid with Honda mtf and the diff with 80w90 Valvoline(Honda said this is what they use)and it still makes the noise.
It also has drilled and slotted rotors which were facing the wrong way when I bought the car lol. I thought this was the original problem, but I switched them and it still does it. They seem to be older, so this could still be the problem. It is very less noticeable with the top down. if anyone has had this problem, please help!

sounds like it could be the diff, when I was looking at used s2000s a lot of them had noisy gearbox/diffs, some alarmingly so. S2000s have notoriously weak diffs and axles, and to some extent the gearbox as well. Honda MTF is what lots of people run and what you put in the diff should be fine as well, so as far as fluid choices go those are both good

Are you sure its not the trans? Does it happen when in neutral while stopped? Listen close and see if it happens when you depress the clutch or release it. If when you depress, a simple throwout bearing, if when you release (like me) I'm thinking input shaft bearing

It does not make the noise while sitting still. Only when rolling, and it goes with the rotation of the tires.
Today I machined the rear rotors at my work and I also had car on a lift and put it in 1st gear and couldn't hear anything. Up to 30mph and still nothing. I'm starting to think it is the rotors/pads in the front. I can't machine them b/c they are drilled and slotted. Probably ebay rotors. The pads are about 3mm, which is pretty low. What is a good drilled/slotted rotor that is preferably zinc coated? Anyone try Password jdm?

I have stoptech drilled rotors and as soon as I installed them i began hearing a noise like this. My theory is that its just the rotors passing along the pads making this noise. I checked for signs of bad bearings, things rubbing, and pretty much every other suggestion i could come across. I can hear the noise more clearly when I am driving next to a guard rail or something similar for the sound to bounce off of. No issues, no vibrations.. just that noise.

Try listening as it is happening in gear, then pop it to neutral and see if it is still there. That would help narrow down the problem.
(sorry if you already answered this)
