Default whinny noise help?

Just yesterday I noticed that when hit the ignition, a very even whiny noise starts and will not go away until I turn off the ignition. It is almost the same EXACT sound that you get when you turn the key to on, and you hear it for a few seconds, and it goes away. Then I hit the ignition and the noise comes back and stays. First of all....what is that initial sound...and could it be that something is causing that to go on and stay on when I hit the ignition? I was told by someone the initial whine that I always hear could be the fuel pump...if so..I dunno why I now hear a new noise like it as soon as I have ignition. Thanks!!

That initial noise is the fuel pump priming. Are you saying that its making the same sound all the time?

It could be as simple as sound coming through the speakers, see if they are off, or if it depends on volume/station.

I dont think you should hear the fuel pump all the time though, unless your trunk is gutted and you have a bigger pump.

I have the same noise. I agree it does not go away. The initial noise on start up is the air pump.

lmao...unless I am cheating on my fiance with an imaginary whiny gf, I don't think so I haven't driven the car for a week before that day, so it could just be that it's a noise I never really noticed until then. I don't think it's the radio catching it, because I turned the radio off to get a better listen of the sound. And yeah it is the same exact sound every time. I open the hood with the car running and i don't hear the sound. So nothing to worry about? Maybe the next time I am near my dealer, I'll ask if a mechanic can ride along and tell me what he thinks of that sound...don't usually trust mechanics, but at least this time he is only listening

damn...everybody stole my best lines. Open the trunk and give a listen. If the fuel pump is where I THINK it is you should hear it if that's the source.

if it from front of car while engine is on...or off, sometimes..it is air pump most likely having that problem myself.
