bringing up and old thread from the dead

I think my car is doing this same thing. It is a fairly high pitched noise that kind of oscillates from quieter to louder and is louder at higher speeds. I guess i need to take it to the dealer.

If you put your ear down to the transmission tunnel area (armrest/cupholder) while driving, or have a passenger do it, you'll know right away if it is from the trans or the diff.

btw, I think this happened when I bottomed out on a manhole cover on a rough street. I couldn't figure out where the damage was, as the "thump" was deep and harsh. The damage prolly was at the tail end of the tranny, leading to the galled bearings, etc.

hmm, i think mine has been doing this since new. i've always thought it was the diff and after changing the fluid back there 3 times since, it's still very present. i've then attributed this noise to the tires, but even after changing them, the sound is still there. last night i put my ear up to the armrest as your post stated and it was definitely more pronounced there.

are there any consequences for not getting this repaired? i have 30k miles on the car now and it's been doing this for about 4 years now.

When I posted my comment back in November, I ended up taking the car to the dealer and was told it would be covered under warranty. The tech gave me a date (4 days later) to drop off the car, unfortunately I ended up blowing my motor the day before drop off (hydrolocked w/ an AEM V2). Being this thread has come back from the dead (and I'm having my motor finally replaced now that it's getting warm), if you'd like I'll keep you up to speed with what the dealer finds when they take a look @ the tranny.

I have a 2005 with about 1,400 miles now, and I have a whine in gear 4. It only happens when there is a forward load on the transmission. That is, if I'm decelerating, then the sound is not there...and it only happens in fourth gear. Sound gets higher in pitch as the speed increases. Since it's only one gear, does anyone have thoughts as to what it could be?

Sorry to bring this back to life but im pretty sure i have this problem atm..
My sound is speed dependant and its there with the clutch in or out. in gear or not.
What work is involved in fixing this.. I'll be able to take the transmission out but i have never opened a trans case before...

Thank

Oh and if it helps i parked my car next to a wall and with the car on idle and clutch up i can hear a 'spinning' type sound but as i push the clutch in i can hear a 'spin slow down' type noise.. Im thinking because of this it probably isn't the diff...
Thanks
