Very true, my parts guy at the local dealer gives me competitive pricing that matches Majestic Honda and I can get it faster AND not have to pay for shipping.

My employee discount is about half what the retail price on parts would be (comparable to oemhondaparts.com/majestic/etc, minus the shipping - a huge perk of working at the dealer). It most certainly depends on the dealer you work for and how much of a break they allow their employees, however. I've been lucky enough to have taken advantage of my discount countless times over the years and it has saved my a$$ more times than I care to mention...

I'm actually on my way out of the Honda/Acura parts business after 17 years and am moving on to Porsche. Even with a possible discount over there, the parts themselves are obviously waaaaaaay more expensive for the P cars so you have to consider the price for the manufacturer you're working with.

For sure. My friend Merc started leaking from just about everywhere at like 40,000 miles. Coolant leak, diff seal is leaking and an oil leak as well. Dealer quoted him $10,000 to fix it lol. I think he was finding another mechanic and I now live multiple states away so cannot help him, but I am not sure how much the parts were. I told him to get rid of it. Awfully expensive car to leak like a sieve at low mileage!

Long ago, when I was rebuilding my BMW 2002Ti, I ordered Mahle pistons from Germany since BMW did not sell the OEM Ti 9.3:1 pistons in the US. It took forever, but when the they arrived, the mechanic I worked with said he got a message saying he had to pick up a crate at Long Beach. I only ordered four pistons.

He returned with a crate full of new Mercedes water pumps for their V8 engines. At the time, Mercedes dealers charged $500 per pump (without labor cost). Anyhow, I finally got my pistons. He kept the water pumps.

My local H dealer will match online prices (not the JDM sites), but WITH shipping. They make you add to cart, go to checkout, and show total with shipping.

But still, its 2 trips to dealer. During work hours. Waiting in line. Waiting in line again at service dept payment window. Waiting in line again later to pickup parts.

Sometimes its easier to just order from couch and a box arrives on porch.
